The Mara Nomads of Tanzania have a life expectancy of less than 56 years. Cholera, Dysentery, Malaria are killers. Lack of clean water for cooking, drinking and other daily needs sees the Manila village, tens of miles west of Lake Victoria, suffering such during dry season, when Mara women and children face a daily 10 mile walk, each way, nearly 8 hours, youngest on their backs, just to secure 5 gallons of water for their family. Consider: US Marines make a 10 mile hike with 50 lb. packs, but have no 10 mile warm-up. 5 gallons of water weighs 41.78 pounds, and no MREs or mess tent await the Mara women at day’s end. Their lifestyle is almost incomprehensible to us, yet we can understand that when they get home? They still have to cook. No $130 Marine boots either. Cheap import plastic jellies are the common shoe. Their water is carried in old paint buckets. They are a rainbow bucket parade.

Early death, often of babies and toddlers, is a horrid but frequent part of life, but a water tower on Lake Victoria, powered by solar panels on this equator split country will deliver not only clean water to raise these people above hard, short lives and subsistence farming, but also introduce electricity to them, which today they experience but infrequently with battery operated devices such as short wave radios. Needless to say, most have never seen a web page.

An opportunity to use that 8 hour day for education dangles in their dreams, the chance to build an economy, to see not only their grandchildren not dying in infancy, but themselves even living long enough to see those grandchildren grow up. There are 23,000 Mara Nomads hoping this happens this Spring. The http://MashakaFoundation, a 5013C
tax-exempt charity in North Carolina, is the vision of John Mashaka, a Tanzanian Mara Nomad himself who was schooled by missionaries and went on to college in the US, where he settled and went on to a successful career in the business and banking world, yet his heart and feelings remain with family and roots as does everyones. John has the building plans for the water tower and the solar panels, contractors, equipment requirements, and the construction plan, all ready to begin. The Mara Nomads lack clean water. The clean water project lacks $450,000.

Lauren Francesca is a charity Ambassador for the OneCent.US Group of Companies, a US based URL shortener that uses its free services and popularity to promote charitable causes, and this is one of them. People often say, "I can't really make a difference." Lauren says you can. Just do the math. Should life expectancy reach 75 for the Mara people? A donation of just one dollar will have meant a year of life for someone. And if you don't have a dollar? Put even just your two cents in. A week. If you were on your death bed and 2 cents could give you another week on this Earth? Or a dollar a whole year? Would you spend it? Or try take it with you? It’s that real.
Lauren asks you to donate whatever you can. A dollar, more if you’re able, remember, even just a few pennies make a difference. Click here for the
